Staycation

Since I did not get on the plane to go to Bimini last week, I chose to keep my subs lined up and take the break from teaching. The long stretch of uninterrupted time lends is itself to creative projects and practice and is one of the best things you can do for your teaching.

I look forward to finding out what comes out when I return on August 2nd.

Stiff White Guys, Saturday 10:45

11 Peeps or so.

Way mixed group.  Combo of regulars and unusual beginners.  J brought her brother T who is deaf and she "sign-languaged" him through the whole class.  Totally cool.  I loved watching her do that and it compelled me to try to communicate more clearly physically.  I am not sure that worked, but maybe it could be learned.

4 Peeps were lying on bolsters at beginning of class, so we went with that.

19 or so.
I forgot to count.
1 brand new, several 2nd timers.

I am supposed to be on a jet plane tomorrow and I cannot find my passport.  I arrived at class having been looking for it since 2am.  I was in the swirl of wonderment and awe that it was missing with a dash of arrogant confidence that I would find it.  The energy of the group was positive and fun.

The talking points meandered across sharing the latest "being in resistance to the way things are" to a new dialogue that I have been feeling around body image and the perception that you are fat.  Very fresh material and did not come out totally clear but I was glad to start to share it.

Ended up playing with belly sacrum work towards twisting postures. Using the attention to front and back of body as well as bow and arrow arms. We touched in on an arm balance right at the end. Surprised me. Really surprised me cuz I was just giving feedback to a member of the TT this June that arm balances at the end of a practice seem unusual. Again, what you judge as "funny" or "strange" you end of up doing yourself so that you understand.

So many out of towners. I did not feel like I got to connect as intimately as I like to. This seems like a new practice. The local regulars were teasing me about the crowd. A woman who I adore came up from LA and brought her pal. Her pal left in the middle. And while I am always glad that people feel free to take care of themselves, sometimes it's tough. Cuz you want everyone to have a good time, but you are not in charge. And mostly I felt like I had let C down. It took me a little bit to relax and let it go.

Main awareness on balancing the front and back of body and hanging in the center of the spine.

Totally new and fun to attempt to teach a basics class that is fresh and current with what I am doing to such a large group of new people.  To keep it fresh an open without falling in the trap of teaching a "crowd pleaser" basics class so the new people would "like me".  Playing with this many new people is fun to see how a whole new group of bodies move.

Eric says this was the worst class I ever taught. I followed the guidance I was getting and I was surprised about it, and 2/3 through I was a little like, "huh? is this totally wacked?" but I think there are some redeeming parts.

Emphasis on inner arch Sacrum Wing Connection. Sometimes when I am getting on something new, I say the instruction too much. I haven't let it baked in there enough and so it is overwhelming. Class Etiquette

I went to Uschi's Independence Day Class this morning.

She opened with a conversation about "I am". And somewhere in the middle of class I forgot that it was not just her and me. Uschi and I have a beautiful friendship that allows space but also pushes each other to be clear. The communication of yoga is not easy and it helps to have friends to help you.

So when I engaged her and started asking questions about what she meant, I threw her off. I was not sensitive to the fact that she was using the intimate and supportive space of teaching to feel into new tender areas within herself. Instead of just listening, I started questioning.

So, sorry pal. I look forward to continuing the discussion and hearing more of what you are sensing, feeling and discovering.
